What does Memoria Teneo mean?
Memoria teneo is latin for “I remember” a phrase I’ve found myself muttering a lot after the loss of a loved one, as if his ghost were standing in the corner, silently shouting at me to never forget. I’ve always been drawn to the concept of memento mori, “to remember one must die” and while yes we all know one day we’ll shove off this mortal coil, I wanted to be able to create jewelry with the concept of remembering, perhaps, to live.
Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, Kayla was always drawn to “pretty rocks.” To this day, she has multiple shoeboxes filled with these treasures; which helped her find her calling in becoming a jeweler.
Graduating from SUNY New Paltz in 2011 with a degree in Metalsmithing, Kayla went on to teach jewelry making workshops to the public for several years, and then spent the better part of a decade as a production jeweler for Tiffany’s and Harry Winston.
